Niall Small is the founding partner in the firm of Small & Marken and opened the practice in 2000.

Having qualified with an LLB (hons) from Queen’s University Belfast, Niall spent the first year after graduating on a management training course with Marks & Spencer in England and then was employed by the Governor Investment Office of New South Wales in Australia before returning to practice law in Northern Ireland.

Niall was one of the first solicitors in Northern Ireland to become a member of the Children’s Order Panel and is very highly regarded throughout the entire legal profession for his knowledge and professionalism in this area of law having in the past conducted a series of lectures to the Northern Ireland Judicial Studies Board on Children’s Law.

He has also lectured on Criminal Law, Family Law and Administration of Estates to a number of organisations.

Recently Niall qualified as a Mediator with Law Society in the field of alternative dispute resolution.

Len Marken

Len Marken is the co founding partner in the firm of Small & Marken and joined Niall Small in partnership shortly after the practice opened in 2000 having previously been a partner in another practice within the Antrim area.

Len qualified with an LLB (hons) from Queen’s University Belfast and went straight in to private practice where he has worked over the past 25 years.

Len is very highly regarded throughout the legal profession for his expert ise and ability in dealing with all types of personal injury actions and has been recognised for the speed and efficiency with which he can deal with a case from start to finish maximising the amount of damages the client receives.

He has dealt with a large number of ‘high value’ claims involving compensation for all types of injury and loss of earnings awards and acts not only on behalf of claimants seeking compensation for injury, but also has an extensive defence practice for one of the UK’s largest supermarket retailers.

Len has held positions on a number of Law Society Committees and currently sits on the Legal Services Appeal Panel which decides on the merits as to whether or not cases should receive public funding to proceed to court.

Grainne O’Hagan

Grainne O’Hagan graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 1994 and became a fully qualified solicitor in 1996 having completed her 2 year apprenticeship working in Belfast.

She commenced work in Antrim in 1996 and joined the practice of Small & Marken in 2003 becoming a partner in the firm in 2005.

Grainne is a qualified member of the Children’s Order Panel and has also completed an intensive training course in the area of Collaborative Law of which she is also a Panel member.

Patricia Blaney

Patricia Blaney graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with an LLB (hons) and subsequently undertook her apprenticeship training in a local solicitors practice specialising in Conveyancing Probate and Administration of Estates, Family Law and Personal Injury Litigation.

Having spent several years gaining experience in these areas of law Patricia opened her own practice in Magherafelt and was in partnership there for a further 10 years before joining the practice of Small & Marken in 2010.

Patricia has gained a wealth of experience in these aspects of the law having been in practice for over 20 years and has a large number of clients ranging from private individuals to Builder and Developers.

Paul Mallon

Paul Mallon graduated with an LLB (Hons) in Law and attended City University and the Inns of Court School of Law, London where he qualified firstly as a barrister at law specialising in Employment Law .

He then went on to qualify also as a solicitor in Northern Ireland and is also qualified to practice in England and in Wales which gives him the unique benefit of being qualified in both branches of the legal profession.

Prior to joining Small & Marken Solicitors as a Consultant Solicitor, Paul worked as an ‘In-House’ Solicitor at a leading firm of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Paul has over 20 years experience in all aspects of the above topics and is highly regarded for his advice and negotiating skills in dealing with both employers and employees alike.

Paul also regularly advises in relation to the legal implications involved in employment law aspects of sales and acquisitions including TUPE in the context of business transfers and outsourcing of work and can offer advice on all aspects of law relating to businesses.

Paul currently also lectures in Employment and Business Law to Accountants and Human Resource Practitioners.
